Hello !

Hi, my name is Amruta. I recently graduated with a Ph.D. in Genetics.

Above is a picture of me, more than a decade ago, doing the ‘invert the bowl over your head’ test of a méringue after whipping the egg whites by HAND!~~ I dont know what had gotten into my head at the time – perhaps it was after watching a MasterChef Australia episode that I challenged myself to do this, but I will not do this again ever! like never ever! This picture represents my humble beginning as a baker, when I had little resources and a LOT of time.

Today, I have much greater access to exotic ingredients from all around the world and own a KitchenAid which makes everything simple. But over all these years I will not say that my kitchen skills have grown by leaps and bounds – thanks to a very demanding PhD, but I know for sure that my love for cooking and food in general has definitely found greater depth.

My hope is that this space will provide me the creative freedom to cook/bake and talk about what I want to eat next 🙂

Fun fact: I work extensively with yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae), both at work and in my kitchen 🙂
